Today's been one of the longest days ever. In just a few minutes I would've been up almost 24 hours straight --primarily working DBA on-call issues, a regular work day, followed by a four-hour grad school class.

I guess to maintain my sanity I have way too many stimulants and too little sleep --too much sugar, too many almonds, too much water and not enough good old-fashioned sleep.

For this piece, I'm using Decim8 and the Best Camera app to create this look. It's been a long time since I've used the Best Camera for my work. I'm really fond of Decim8 for its digital random artifact gloriousness.

I see this as a move to make room for iPhone traffic. Verizon's network is already slower than AT&T's data network. The most data-intensive iPhone apps I use are the video streaming services like Hulu Plus, YouTube, and Netflix.

Does this mean that iPhone users with unlimited data plans will have a less than spectacular streaming experience after the throttle? Defeats the purpose of an unlimited data plan IMHO.

According to a PDF memo available on Verizon Wireless’ website (for now), the company will begin to throttle the data-throughput speeds of customers that consume an “extraordinary amount of data” and “seamlessly” optimize content for smartphones. Verizon Wireless strives to provide customers the best experience when using our network, a shared resource among tens of millions of customers. To help achieve this, if you use an extraordinary amount of data and fall within the top 5% of Verizon Wireless data users we may reduce your data throughput speeds periodically for the remainder of your then current and immediately following billing cycle to ensure high quality network performance for other users at locations and times of peak demand. Our proactive management of the Verizon Wireless network is designed to ensure that the remaining 95% of data customers aren’t negatively affected by the inordinate data consumption of just a few users.

Looks like Verizon is trying to get its proverbial ducks in-a-r0w for the flood of iPhone due to hit its network on the 10th. Let us know what you think in the comments.
